In the Archie comics, Knuckles thought he was the last of his kind but his people were scattered all over in different dimensions and even on Mobius. I wanted to concentrate all of them into two places. We already saw the Dark Legion and where they came from, the rest of the echidnas were on another planet, and both have reasons for not being around. Simpler and with rational explanations for their disappearance.

Knuckles the Echidna is the guardian of the Master Emerald as well as protector of Angel Island. Not only is it his home but it’s also home to various other mobians. Some good and some bad.
